Improvement of type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary control and exercise to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other blood sugar-lowering agents such as sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin when there is no effect from these agents alone. Additionally, it is important for patients with type 2 diabetes to also receive nutritional counseling and, if necessary, to engage in weight loss and exercise. This lifestyle adjustment coupled with medication will greatly aid not only in initial treatment but also in ongoing blood sugar management. This medication is used to improve healthy blood sugar control.
This medication is taken orally once daily, regardless of meals. For monotherapy, start with 15 mg once daily, and if insufficiently effective, it can be increased to 30 mg once daily. For combination therapy with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin, administer 15 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose should not exceed 30 mg once daily.
There is no experience in children under 18 years, so its use is not recommended.
This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and helps improve insulin resistance to aid in blood sugar control. This medication may place a burden on the heart, so patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use it. During use, careful observation is necessary for symptoms of heart failure such as sudden weight gain or shortness of breath. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should also not take this medication, and it is advisable not to administer it to patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function. Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, type 1 diabetes, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and patients with lactose intolerance should not use this medication. This medication may cause fluid retention, so those with edema or heart disease should use it cautiously, and especially premenopausal women need appropriate contraception as ovulation may be stimulated, increasing the risk of pregnancy. Routine monitoring of blood sugar, liver function, weight, edema, and symptoms of heart failure is essential during treatment. When used in conjunction with other diabetes medications or insulin, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia, and adjustments to the doses of the co-administered medications may be necessary. Since this medication is metabolized in the liver, the blood concentration may change when taken with certain other medications; thus, it is important to discuss any concomitant medications with a healthcare professional. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established, so it should only be used in special cases, and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor to decide on its use. Elderly patients may use this medication, but it should be administered with caution, and any side effects should be carefully monitored. In cases of overdose, there may not be specific symptoms, but appropriate treatment should be sought immediately. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is not recommended for use in this population. During the course of treatment, patients should strictly adhere to the prescribed dosage according to the physician's instructions, and if a dose is missed, they should not take double the amount the next day. Possible side effects include weight gain, edema, headache, upper respiratory infection, hypoglycemia, urinary tract infection, low back pain, dizziness, diarrhea, elevated creatine kinase (CK) levels, hypertension, itching, chest pain, fatigue, weakness, indigestion, nausea, discomfort in the chest, trembling, chills, gastrointestinal disorders, epigastric discomfort, numbness, trembling, muscle stiffness, discomfort in the head, elevated liver enzymes, hives, eczema, joint pain, knee abnormalities, and arm pain.
