This medication is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and gastrointestinal diseases such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It also helps in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. It may be administered before anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome, and it is effective for ulcer treatment post-surgery. It is also used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used to improve various gastrointestinal disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

Generally, 1 tablet is taken orally twice a day in the morning and before bedtime, regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Administer 1 tablet twice daily or administer 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. For patients with duodenal ulcers, administer 2 tablets twice daily in the morning and before bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 1 tablet twice daily for 8 weeks or administer 2 tablets once daily before bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or those with allergies to any of its components. It should also be avoided in patients with a history of acute porphyria, and it is considered safe to not administer it in patients with impaired renal function or those who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, premature infants, newborns, and patients on a potassium-restricted diet should also refrain from using this medication. Patients with liver dysfunction, a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and those with renal dysfunction should use this medication cautiously. If taking NSAIDs, regular monitoring is required, especially for the elderly or those with a history of peptic ulcers. In gastric ulcer patients, symptoms of gastric cancer may be masked; therefore, middle-aged or older patients with newly developed dyspepsia should verify the malignancy before treatment. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection associated with gastric and duodenal ulcers should undergo eradication therapy, and extreme caution is required in critically ill patients, those with hypophosphatemia, or patients with swallowing difficulties. During the intake of this medication, there may be anaphylactic shock or hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash and angioedema; if symptoms occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a physician. Various adverse reactions such as blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, arrhythmia, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological disturbances, myalgia, skin rashes, etc., have been reported; if any abnormal symptoms appear, consult medical personnel immediately. Long-term use should be avoided, and treatment should be closely monitored; if no effect is observed, it is advisable to switch to another medication. Elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or immunocompromised states may see an increased risk of developing epidemic pneumonia while taking this medication. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. There may be interactions with other drugs; thus, if taking other medications, it is essential to inform medical staff, especially when using anticoagulants, antibiotics, or anticonvulsants. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication, and safety in pediatrics is not well established. Since it can affect test results, care must be taken during clinical tests, and in case of overdose, seek appropriate treatment immediately from a medical institution. This medication can reduce gastric acid secretion and promote bacterial overgrowth in the stomach, so ophthalmological examination may be required upon long-term administration.
