This medication is used for gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for conditions associated with excessive gastric acid secretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and helps prevent postoperative ulcers and treat ulcers induced by NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). It is utilized for preventing Mendelson's syndrome when administered before anesthesia. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, providing comfort to the stomach and alleviating symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients undergoing dialysis or those with renal function issues. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with a history of allergy to this drug or its components, those with a history of acute porphyria, patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, premature infants or newborns, and patients who need to restrict potassium intake. Patients with liver function impairment, a history of drug allergies, the elderly, those with a history of renal function decline, and patients taking NSAIDs should exercise special caution when using this medication. Particularly, since it can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, patients over middle age with recent onset of gastric ulcer or dyspeptic symptoms should confirm the absence of malignant diseases prior to treatment. This medication should be used in conjunction with eradication therapy for patients with Helicobacter pylori infection causing gastric and duodenal ulcers, and it needs to be administered cautiously in severely ill patients in the intensive care unit or those with hypophosphatemia, and patients with dysphagia. During the use of this medication, rare but severe allergic reactions, skin rashes, reduction in blood cell counts, liver function abnormalities, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological symptoms, muscle pain, hair loss, etc., may occur. If any abnormal symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Long-term use is not recommended, and if no therapeutic effect is observed, switching to another medication should be considered. Elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease or diabetes may have an increased risk of pneumonia, thus caution is necessary. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional if you are taking anticoagulants or certain antibiotics or anticonvulsants. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this drug, and safety in children has not been established, thus administration to children is not advisable. In case of overdose, emergency treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be needed, and blood dialysis may be performed if necessary. Finally, as this medication reduces gastric acid secretion, it may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, so it is advisable to undergo eye examinations with long-term use.
