This medication is used as an adjunctive treatment for liver diseases such as toxic liver disease, chronic hepatitis, and cirrhosis.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults: Initial dosage of 140 mg of silymarin (or 60 mg of silibinin) per dose, taken 3 times a day. Maintenance dosage of 70 mg of silymarin (or 30 mg of silibinin) per dose, taken 3 times a day. Alternatively, 140 mg (or 60 mg of silibinin) can be taken 2 times a day.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients with severe bile duct obstruction, those allergic to this medication, and children under 12 years of age.
