This medication is used for gastrointestinal-related disorders including gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective in treating post-operative ulcers and ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Before anesthesia, it may be administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome. This medication helps alleviate symptoms by regulating gastric acid secretion and aids in treatment. It protects the gastric mucosa and reduces inflammation, improving healthy gastrointestinal function. Therefore, it is used in the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders.

Precautions

This medication is not safe for patients on dialysis or those with kidney function issues. Additionally, individuals who have previously shown allergic reactions to this drug or its components should not take it. Patients with a history of acute porphyria should also avoid this medication, particularly women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as premature infants and newborns. Patients who need to restrict potassium intake should also refrain from using this medication. Patients with compromised liver function, those with drug allergy histories, the elderly, and those with renal dysfunction histories should use this drug cautiously, especially if taken alongside NSAIDs. This medication may mask the symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age who have developed new symptoms of dyspepsia should ensure that it is not a malignant condition before using it. Patients with positive Helicobacter pylori in gastric or duodenal ulcers should receive treatment to eradicate the bacteria. Severe patients or those with dysphagia should also exercise caution with this medication. Rarely, allergic reactions, skin rashes, blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological symptoms may occur while taking this drug, so if any unusual symptoms arise, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Long-term use is not recommended, and it is important to use the minimal effective dose while closely monitoring treatment progress. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs, avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. Due to insufficient safety and efficacy data, it is preferable to avoid using this medication in children. In the case of overdose, appropriate treatment such as inducing vomiting or gastric lavage is necessary, and dialysis may be required if needed. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which can promote bacterial growth in the stomach; therefore, regular ophthalmic examinations are recommended with long-term use.
