View approved original text

This medication controls blood pressure in patients with hypertension, thereby reducing cardiovascular burden. It also facilitates blood flow to the heart muscle in patients with stable angina due to fixed coronary occlusion, alleviating symptoms. It effectively acts on variant angina caused by vasospasm in the coronary vessels, improving myocardial ischemia. Thus, this medication is used to dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow to enhance heart health against various causes of myocardial ischemia.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5 mg of amlodipine orally once a day. If symptoms do not improve within 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg per day based on the patient's response. Adjust the dosage appropriately according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it is contraindicated for those who are allergic to this drug or similar components, pregnant or nursing women, and patients with severe cardiac issues or liver dysfunction. Furthermore, patients with significantly impaired kidney function, the elderly, acute heart failure patients, and those with mild liver dysfunction should exercise extra caution when using this medication. Side effects may include facial flushing or warmth, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, indigestion, and drowsiness. If these symptoms are severe or persistent, it is necessary to consult a physician. Regular blood tests may be needed as blood tests could show decreased white blood cell or platelet counts. Rarely, severe side effects such as allergic reactions or skin rashes and liver function abnormalities may occur, so any unusual symptoms must be reported to medical personnel immediately. Sudden discontinuation of this medication can worsen symptoms, so the dosage should be gradually reduced under a physician's guidance, and care should be taken not to stop it arbitrarily. Take this medication with plenty of water, and be cautious when driving or performing hazardous tasks, as blood pressure lowering may cause dizziness or fatigue. This medication can be used alongside other antihypertensives, diuretics, antibiotics, and antidiabetic drugs, but it is advisable not to take it with grapefruit juice. Also, caution is needed with certain antifungals or antivirals, as they may increase drug concentration. Pregnant or nursing women are advised to avoid this medication as its safety has not been established, and safety in pediatric patients has not been confirmed. In the elderly, drug concentration may increase, so it is important to start with a lower dose and administer cautiously. In overdose situations, severe hypotension, cardiac abnormalities, and loss of consciousness may occur, which requires immediate emergency treatment and appropriate care under a physician's instructions. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers for safety.
