This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgery, and angina in adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors and patients with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly beneficial for patients with coronary artery disease or multiple risk factors and can reduce the risk of hospitalization due to congestive heart failure. Additionally, for patients with hyperlipidemia, it lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby improving blood lipids. It is also used in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia in conjunction with dietary therapy to manage blood lipid levels. This medication is effectively used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the treatment of hyperlipidemia.
