View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone, but it may be combined with metformin when initial treatment is difficult or not adequately manageable with monotherapy. Additionally, it is used in conjunction with metformin or sulfonylurea monotherapy when blood sugar control is difficult. It can also be combined when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with insulin treatment or combined therapy with sulfonylurea and metformin. This medication is added when sufficient blood sugar control is difficult even when combined with empagliflozin and metformin. Thus, this medication effectively improves blood sugar control in various therapeutic situations.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to those who are allergic to its main ingredient or other components. It should also not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Additionally, caution is necessary when used with insulin or sulfonylurea drugs, which can cause hypoglycemia, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. In particular, in patients with severely impaired kidney function, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in conjunction with insulin, and dose adjustments may be necessary. Since there is limited experience with this medication in patients with heart failure, it should be administered carefully. Furthermore, acute pancreatitis may occur during the use of this medication, so if symptoms such as severe abdominal pain arise, consumption should be stopped immediately and a physician should be consulted. Skin conditions resembling bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if blisters or eruptions appear on the skin, medical personnel should be notified immediately, and if necessary, discontinuation of the medication and consultation with a specialist may be required. During the use of this medication, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so it is important to be well aware of hypoglycemic symptoms, especially when combined with other blood sugar-lowering agents. The use of this medication is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women, and nursing mothers should consult with a professional because this medication may be excreted in breast milk. It is advisable not to use this medication in children under 10 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established, and adolescents over 10 years of age should use it under the judgment of a physician. In elderly patients, it can be used without special dosage adjustments, and it can also be administered without dose adjustments in patients with impaired kidney or liver function. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so measures should be taken to prevent the absorption of the medication in the gastrointestinal tract, and symptoms should be observed while receiving necessary treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and care should be taken not to transfer it to other containers, as this may cause accidents or reduce quality.
