View approved original text

This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy for patients with hypertriglyceridemia (Type IV) to reduce elevated triglyceride levels. It can also enhance therapeutic effects when used in conjunction with statin drugs for patients with mixed hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia (Type IIb). Particularly, it allows for better management in patients with mixed type whose triglyceride levels are not controlled when administered together with statins. This drug is effective in improving hypertriglyceridemia, whether administered alone or in combination.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have allergic reactions to any components, or in children under the age of 18. It should be administered with caution to patients at high risk of bleeding due to severe trauma or surgery, those with poor liver function, and patients with fish allergies. While taking this medication, various side effects such as dyspepsia, dizziness, headache, and rash may occur, and if there are any unusual symptoms, the patient should consult a doctor immediately. Before starting treatment, a blood test should confirm triglyceride levels, and regular testing should continue during medication to monitor treatment effects and side effects. This drug is more effective when combined with non-pharmacological treatments such as weight loss, dietary modifications, and exercise, making lifestyle improvement crucial. Patients on blood thinners should be particularly cautious due to bleeding risks, and if any bleeding symptoms arise, they should inform medical personnel immediately. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult medical personnel before use, as the safety of this drug has not been sufficiently established. This drug is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy are not established, and caution is necessary for the elderly.
