This medication is used to improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and cold sensation caused by chronic arterial occlusion, for example, Buerger's disease, obliterative atherosclerosis, and diabetic peripheral vascular disease. It also has the effect of preventing recurrence after a cerebral infarction, helping maintain the health of general cerebral infarction patients except for those with cardiogenic cerebral embolism. It is effectively used for the treatment and symptom improvement of vascular-related diseases.

Adult dose

For cilostazol, the usual adult dose is 200 mg taken orally once daily. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach.

Precautions

This medication may increase heart rate and carries a risk of angina symptoms, so chest pain and other symptoms should be closely monitored. It should not be administered to patients at risk of bleeding, those with bleeding disorders, or patients who have recently had a hemorrhagic stroke or surgery. It should also not be given to patients with congestive heart failure, patients with hypersensitivity to this drug, or women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers. Care should be taken when used in conjunction with anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, and thrombolytic agents as it may increase the risk of bleeding. Caution is advised for women during menstruation due to bleeding risk, and coronary artery stenosis patients may experience worsening angina due to increased heart rate. Patients with renal failure, liver failure, diabetes, hypertension, or arrhythmias should be administered this drug carefully as the risk of metabolism or side effects is higher. This medication can cause various side effects such as headache, diarrhea, palpitations, myalgia, skin rash; if abnormal symptoms appear, notify healthcare personnel immediately. In particular, if symptoms of bleeding or cardiac abnormalities appear, use should be stopped and appropriate treatment received. This medication may cause dizziness, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery, and it is best taken on an empty stomach, as taking it with food may increase blood concentration and the risk of side effects. Since this medication is metabolized in the liver, those with liver function impairment and those taking drugs that inhibit liver enzymes may require dosage adjustments due to increased blood concentration. Pregnant or nursing mothers should not be administered this drug as its safety for the fetus or neonate has not been established, and its safety in children has also not been sufficiently confirmed. Elderly individuals may have a higher risk of side effects due to decreased physical function, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. In case of overdose, severe headache, diarrhea, hypotension, tachycardia, arrhythmias, etc., may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention.
