This drug helps patients with type 2 diabetes to more effectively control blood sugar levels along with diet and exercise therapy. It is used to enhance blood sugar control through the combined administration of Linagliptin and Metformin.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. For those not previously treated with metformin: The initial dosage is to take this medication 2.5/500 mg, twice daily, 1 tablet each time, and it can be increased to 2.5/1000 mg, twice daily, 1 tablet each time. 2. In cases where adequate blood sugar control is difficult with metformin monotherapy: Administer Linagliptin 2.5 mg twice daily and the existing metformin dosage.

Precautions

This medication helps control blood sugar. However, it can cause a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, so it should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function or certain heart diseases and liver dysfunction. Patients who are allergic to the components of this medication, or those with type 1 diabetes, acute myocardial infarction, should also not use it. Additionally, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, caution is necessary when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, and dosage adjustments may be required. Caution should also be exercised in elderly patients with impaired kidney function or those taking medications that may affect kidney function. In situations that can cause rapid changes in kidney function, such as acute infections, dehydration, severe trauma, or pre-and post-surgery, the use of this drug should be temporarily suspended. If iodinated contrast agents used in radiological examinations are to be administered, this medication should also be temporarily stopped before and after the examination, and renal function should be monitored. Gastrointestinal disturbances (abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, etc.) may occur at the beginning of treatment, but they usually improve over time. Additionally, since a deficiency of vitamin B12 may occur, it's advisable to monitor blood vitamin B12 levels during long-term use. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid (blister formation on the skin) appear, discontinuation of the medication should be immediate and consultation with a physician is necessary. This medication is not recommended for children and pediatric patients under 10 years of age, and elderly patients should be administered the minimum dosage while regularly monitoring kidney function. In cases of overdose, the risk of lactic acidosis is present, requiring immediate treatment, and blood dialysis is an effective treatment method. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, stored away from moisture, and should not be transferred to another container. Lastly, alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, and if you are taking other medications that may interact with this medication, consult a physician or pharmacist.
