This medication is used for various gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also administered before anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome and is effective in treating ulcers that may occur post-surgery. It is used for gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication helps alleviate symptoms and aids in treatment by controlling gastric acid secretion.

How to take

Adult dose

Generally, take 1 tablet orally twice daily, in the morning and before bed, regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers Administer 1 tablet twice daily or 2 tablets once daily before bed. Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or with kidney dysfunction. It should not be administered to individuals allergic to this drug or its ingredients. Patients who have had a rare disease called acute porphyria should be cautious as this medication can induce seizures. It is not administered to patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women, women who could become pregnant, and premature infants or newborns. Patients on a restricted potassium diet are advised not to use this medication. Caution is advised in patients with liver dysfunction, history of drug allergies, elderly patients, and those with a history of kidney disease. Regular monitoring is required for elderly patients or those with a history of peptic ulcers when taken in conjunction with NSAIDs. This medication can obscure symptoms of stomach cancer, so gastric ulcer patients or middle-aged patients with newly occurring dyspeptic symptoms should use it only after confirming malignancy. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori require eradication therapy. Severely ill patients in intensive care units, those with hypophosphatemia, or patients who have difficulty swallowing also require caution with this medication. Rarely, anaphylactic shock or hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes, hives, and breathing difficulties may occur, and if such symptoms develop, administration should be stopped immediately. Blood cell counts may decrease or liver function may change, so patients should undergo examination if they experience symptoms like fatigue, bleeding, or fever. Neurological symptoms such as cardiac rhythm disturbances, vasculitis, gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and depression have also been reported. Rare side effects include gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction, myalgia, skin rashes, and alopecia. Long-term use of this medication is not recommended, and periodic checks of blood, liver, and kidney function should be conducted during treatment. Elderly patients, those with chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, and immunocompromised individuals may have an increased risk of pneumonia and should exercise caution. Patients should avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery if they feel dizzy or drowsy after taking this medication. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially anticoagulants or certain antibiotics, so it should be discussed with medical personnel. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medication. Safety in children has not been established and thus should not be used. In cases of overdose, emergency treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and blood dialysis can also remove the drug. This medication can reduce gastric acid secretion, potentially promoting bacterial growth in the stomach, so eye examinations may be needed for long-term use.
