Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers (gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease)
This medication is used for gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, prevention of anesthesia-related complications before surgery, postoperative ulcers, and for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Usually taken orally twice daily at 1 tablet each time, without regard to meals, in the morning and at bedtime. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Administer 1 tablet twice daily or 2 tablets once daily at bedtime. For patients with duodenal ulcers, 2 tablets can be administered twice daily in the morning and at bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 1 tablet twice daily for 8 weeks, or 2 tablets once daily at bedtime.
This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or with impaired kidney function. In addition, it should not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or its components, a history of acute porphyria, those who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those of childbearing potential, premature infants, neonates, and patients on potassium-restricted diets. Patients with liver dysfunction or a history of drug allergies, the elderly, those with a history of kidney problems, and patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should exercise extra caution when using this medication. Particularly, as this medication can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age who have newly developed or altered dyspeptic symptoms must confirm malignancy before treatment. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori require additional treatment for bacterium eradication. Patients in intensive care or those with hypophosphatemia, and those experiencing difficulty swallowing should also be careful when using this medication. While taking this medication, allergic reactions, skin rashes, blood disorders, hepatic dysfunction, cardiac arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological symptoms may occasionally occur; any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. It is important not to use this medication for an extended period without observing therapeutic effects; if not effective, switching to another medication is advised, along with regular blood tests and assessments of liver and kidney functions. Additionally, if dizziness or drowsiness occurs, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if taking other medications, it is essential to inform healthcare professionals, as dosage adjustments may be needed for some medications when taken concurrently. It is safest for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding to avoid using this medication, and safety in children has not been established, so administration should be avoided if possible. Finally, in cases of overdose, emergency treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and because this medication reduces gastric acid secretion which may promote bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, regular check-ups including ophthalmological examinations are recommended for long-term use.
