Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

The combination therapy of amlodipine and olmesartan medoxomil helps patients with essential hypertension who have difficulty in controlling blood pressure. These medications work to dilate blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and lowering the burden on the heart. The combined effect is superior to single agent therapy, contributing to a reduced risk of complications from hypertension. Therefore, continuous usage and consultation with healthcare professionals are essential for stable blood pressure management. This therapy effectively improves essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Do not use in patients with a known allergy to this medication or its components, or in those with specific heart diseases, severe kidney and liver diseases, or in pregnant or nursing women. Patients with low blood volume or reduced salt may experience hypotension when starting this medication, so their condition should be closely monitored. Caution is advised for patients with unstable kidney function, kidney transplant recipients, and those with renovascular hypertension, as well as for patients with liver disease. This medication lowers blood pressure, so patients undergoing hypertension treatment should monitor their blood pressure to prevent it from becoming too low. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. If allergic symptoms such as unusual rashes, itching, or breathing difficulties occur during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. This medication can cause electrolyte imbalances in some patients, so regular blood tests to check potassium, sodium, etc., are necessary. Interactions may occur when taken with other medications, so inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking. In cases of overdose, hypotension, and heart rhythm disturbances may occur, so dosage should be strictly adhered to, and medical attention should be sought if any abnormal symptoms appear. This medication is not recommended for children due to insufficient safety and efficacy data. In elderly patients, due to potential decreased kidney function, medication response may vary, so it is recommended to start with a low dose and administer cautiously. Store this medication out of reach of children and keep it in a tightly closed container, avoiding moisture and direct sunlight.
