This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It may be used alone or in combination with other medications to enhance therapeutic effects. This helps effectively manage blood sugar levels and alleviate diabetes symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken orally once daily, regardless of meals. For monotherapy, start with 15 mg once daily; if the effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased to 30 mg once daily. For combination therapy with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin, the initial dosage is also 15 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dosage does not exceed 30 mg once daily.

Child dose

The safety and experience in children under 18 years has not been established; therefore, use is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication may cause or exacerbate congestive heart failure in some patients, so symptoms and signs of heart failure should be carefully monitored after starting therapy or increasing the dosage. It should not be used in patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure. Patients at risk of heart failure should use this medication with caution, as it may cause fluid retention that could precipitate or worsen heart failure. If symptoms such as visible hematuria, urinary disturbances, or urgency occur during treatment, the possibility of bladder cancer should be reported to a doctor immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or its components, liver impairment or severe kidney impairment, a history of active or past bladder cancer, diabetic ketoacidosis, or type 1 diabetes patients, pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant should not receive this medication. Caution is advised for those taking other oral hypoglycemic agents, premenopausal women, patients with edema or heart disease, renal impairment, malnourished patients, those engaging in vigorous exercise, excessive alcohol consumption, and elderly patients. This medication may cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, edema, headache, upper respiratory infections, weight gain, abdominal distention, and patients should consult a doctor if any abnormal symptoms occur. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function tests should be conducted during treatment, and if symptoms suggesting liver damage arise, medical attention should be sought immediately. This medication should be used cautiously during pregnancy as it may affect the fetus, and during breastfeeding, consultation with a doctor is necessary. If symptoms such as weight gain, edema, or shortness of breath occur while taking this medication, patients must notify their doctor immediately and pay attention to signs of hypoglycemia. Safety for children or patients under 18 years has not been established, and elderly patients should also use it with caution. In case of overdose, appropriate supportive therapy must be provided based on the patient's condition. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container.
