Improvement of target blood pressure control in essential hypertension and hypertension treatment
This medication is a combination of amlodipine and losartan, suitable for patients with essential hypertension who have difficulty controlling blood pressure with monotherapy. It also helps achieve the treatment target blood pressure quickly in stage 2 hypertension patients by using the combination therapy from the start for effective blood pressure management. Therefore, it is used in the treatment of hypertension to improve blood pressure-lowering effects and maintain stable blood pressure.
The recommended dose is 1 tablet once daily, taken with water regardless of meals. It is advisable to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). Typically, this medication 5/50 mg is administered once daily, and if blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled after 2 weeks of administration, the dose can be increased to 10/50 mg once daily.
The safety and efficacy of this medication in pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established, so its use is not recommended.
This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential should confirm pregnancy before taking this medication and it should not be used during pregnancy. When administered to patients with reduced blood volume, hypotensive symptoms may occur, so it should be administered only after this condition improves. Patients with an allergy to any ingredients in this medication, severe liver dysfunction, severe aortic stenosis, or in shock should not take it. Caution is required in patients with low blood volume or moderate to severe renal impairment, those on strict salt restriction, or those with hyperkalemia when using this medication. Dizziness or headache may occur during administration, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may affect liver and kidney function, so regular check-ups are necessary and consultation with healthcare professionals should occur immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. When taken with other antihypertensive drugs, the dose may need adjustment according to a doctor's instructions as it may cause excessively low blood pressure. This medication's blood concentration may increase if taken with grapefruit juice, so it is advisable to avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice consumption. It is preferable not to use this medication during breastfeeding, and its safety and efficacy have not been established for children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly patients, especially those aged 75 and older, require an initial dosage adjustment, so they should only take it after consulting with healthcare providers. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension or heart problems may occur, so strict adherence to the dosage is required, and immediate medical attention should be sought for any unusual symptoms. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container for safety.
