Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers. It should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or mechanical obstruction, as this medication may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and can be harmful. Patients with pheochromocytoma, which may increase blood pressure due to tumors, should not take this medication. Patients with allergic reactions or intolerance to this medication should also avoid it. This medication is unsuitable for patients with epilepsy, manic episodes, or those in the manic phase of bipolar disorder. Patients with breast-related disorders should take caution, as this medication may increase prolactin secretion and worsen symptoms. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take it. Patients with hypertension should carefully monitor any changes in blood pressure while using this medication. In children, extrapyramidal symptoms may easily appear, so overdose should be avoided, and elderly patients should have dosage adjustments and monitoring for adverse effects due to decreased kidney function, which can lead to increased drug concentration. During the use of this medication, hormonal-related abnormalities such as amenorrhea, increased lactation, or gynecomastia may occur, and if symptoms appear, it should be discontinued immediately. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and restlessness may rarely occur; if these symptoms manifest, the medication should be stopped. Long-term use may lead to involuntary movements around the mouth, which may persist even after discontinuation of the medication. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmias may occur, so careful monitoring is necessary. Serious side effects, known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome, have been reported rarely, and immediate treatment is required if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness arise. Skin rashes or swelling may rarely occur, along with symptoms such as flushing, fatigue, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, erectile dysfunction, or changes in libido. Long-term use may lead to reversible symptoms due to hormonal abnormalities. This medication may cause endocrine abnormalities such as increased prolactin secretion and milk leakage, and patients should be informed in advance. Administration should be done with careful consideration of the possibility of adverse reactions, including extrapyramidal symptoms, and it is advisable to avoid activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, during treatment. There is a risk of cardiac arrhythmias, so caution is needed when combined with drugs that prolong the QT interval. It should be administered cautiously to patients at risk of stroke. Using this medication with anticholinergic agents, narcotics, or analgesics may reduce gastrointestinal motility, so concurrent use should be avoided. Patients taking digoxin should be monitored, as symptoms like nausea or vomiting may be masked. Caution is warranted when used with other benzamide medications, as endocrine abnormalities or extrapyramidal symptoms may increase. Unexpected side effects may arise when used with psychotropic drugs, and alcohol should not be consumed concurrently. It is also advisable to avoid combination with drugs that can induce electrolyte disturbances. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women should avoid this medication due to the risk of harm to the fetus. Nursing mothers should also avoid use until neonatal safety is established. Elderly patients may experience prolonged drug retention in the body due to decreased kidney function, necessitating adjustments in dosage and administration intervals and careful observation of adverse effects. This medication may suppress vomiting symptoms and thus conceal vomiting from other causes, so caution is needed during use. Long-term high-dose administration has been reported to pose risks for reproductive function decline or tumor development, necessitating caution during prolonged use.
