Relief of diabetic polyneuritis
This medication is used to alleviate the symptoms of diabetic polyneuropathy, which is an inflammatory condition affecting several nerves due to diabetes. This helps reduce symptoms such as pain or sensory abnormalities, thus improving the patient's daily life.
Adults: Take 600 milligrams of thioctic acid once daily with plenty of water approximately 30 minutes before breakfast.
This medication should not be used by patients with allergic reactions to α-lipoic acid or other excipients. Additionally, there is insufficient clinical experience with this medication in children and adolescents; therefore, it should not be administered to this age group. When taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may rarely occur. Allergic symptoms, including rash, hives, and itching, may also occur rarely. Blood sugar levels may drop, leading to hypoglycemic symptoms such as dizziness, sweating, headache, and visual disturbances; caution is advised. There may also be a risk of taste disturbances, so any unusual symptoms should be reported. Frequent consumption of alcohol may exacerbate nerve damage and could interfere with the effects of this medication. It is especially recommended for patients with diabetic neuropathy to avoid alcohol intake, and not to consume alcohol even during periods when the medication is paused. This medication may reduce the effectiveness of the specific anticancer drug cisplatin; therefore, it should not be taken together. Taking iron, magnesium supplements, or foods containing calcium simultaneously may hinder absorption in the body, so dosage timing should be adjusted. When taken with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, blood sugar may drop too low, necessitating regular monitoring and dosage adjustments if needed. There is insufficient information regarding the safety of this medication in pregnant or nursing women; it should only be used when deemed absolutely necessary by a physician. In case of overdose, severe toxicity symptoms may present, necessitating immediate hospitalization for appropriate treatment. Symptoms of toxicity may include anxiety, decreased consciousness, seizures, decreased blood sugar, and renal or liver dysfunction. This medication should be stored at temperatures not exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and kept out of reach of children. Additionally, it should remain in its original container for quality maintenance.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent exposure to air and moisture. The storage temperature should be maintained between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the medication's effectiveness for a longer period.
