This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis that can occur in postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become weak and can fracture easily, particularly common in postmenopausal women. This drug helps maintain bone strength and increase bone density, reducing the risk of fractures. Regular use can improve bone health, enhancing safety in daily activities. Therefore, it is effectively used to treat and prevent osteoporosis after menopause.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 60 mg orally once a day as Raloxifene Hydrochloride.

Precautions

This medication can increase the risk of venous thromboembolism, which can block blood vessels. Especially during prolonged periods of immobility, this medication should be discontinued, and can be resumed after symptoms improve and mobility returns to normal. This drug is primarily metabolized in the liver, thus patients with poor liver function must consult a doctor before taking it. Its use is not approved for premenopausal women. Postmenopausal women with heart disease or high stroke risk require caution while taking this medication, as the risk of death due to stroke may be slightly increased. This drug should not be used for the purpose of preventing cardiovascular disease. Additionally, it is not recommended to use this drug in conjunction with systemic estrogen therapy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication, as it can be harmful to the fetus or baby. Patients with a history of thrombosis, liver disease, unexplained uterine bleeding, or symptoms of endometrial cancer should also avoid this drug. Patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should avoid this medication as well. Common side effects include facial flushing, leg cramps, cold symptoms, edema, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, headache, rashes, breast symptoms (pain, swelling, tenderness), vaginal bleeding, facial swelling, heartburn, constipation, itching, palpitations, fever, weakness, sweating, muscle pain, insomnia, perineal pain, weight gain, arthritis-like symptoms, pain, fatigue, restlessness, chest tightness, skin lesions, anxiety, weight loss, seizures, and visual disturbances. During treatment, it is recommended to adequately consume calcium and vitamin D and to avoid smoking and alcohol. This drug may interact with other medications, so be sure to inform your doctor about any other drugs you are taking, especially if they affect blood coagulation, as frequent blood tests may be necessary. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as leg cramps or dizziness may occur, so it is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage. This medication is not for use in children or men, and caution is required for the elderly. It should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers for safety.

Deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, retinal vein thrombosis, superficial venous thrombophlebitis, arterial thromboembolism, retinal vein occlusion, stroke, death related to deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, thrombocytopenia, increased blood pressure, headaches including migraines.

Mild side effects

Vasodilation (facial flushing), leg cramps, cold symptoms, peripheral edema, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, headache, rash, breast symptoms (pain, swelling, tenderness), vaginal bleeding, facial swelling, heartburn, constipation, itching, palpitations, fever, weakness, sweating, muscle pain, insomnia, perineal pain, weight gain, arthritis-like symptoms, pain, fatigue, restlessness, chest tightness, skin lesions, anxiety, weight loss, seizures, visual disturbances.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

Store this medication in a tightly closed container to prevent air or moisture from entering. Also, to maintain the medication's effectiveness, it is best to store it in a cool place between 15 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius.
