Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (including ACE inhibitor intolerance), reducing the risk of death after myocardial infarction
This medication is used to treat essential hypertension, effectively lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiovascular workload. It is also used in heart failure patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors to improve heart function. After myocardial infarction, it helps to reduce the risk of death in stable patients with left ventricular failure or systolic dysfunction. By aiding in the treatment and prevention of various cardiovascular diseases, it contributes to improving the quality of life for patients.
Essential hypertension: The recommended dose is 80 mg orally once a day, which may be increased up to a maximum of 320 mg depending on circumstances. Elderly patients (75 years and older): Treatment should be initiated at 40 mg once daily. For renal impairment, patients with fluid deficit, and those with mild to moderate liver dysfunction, treatment should start at 40 mg once daily. Heart failure: The recommended dose is 40 mg orally twice a day, with the possibility of increasing to 80 mg per dose.
Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients under 18 years of age.
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus if used by pregnant women, thus it must be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used in individuals allergic to this drug or its components, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, and those with certain hereditary angioedema. Caution is needed when using this drug in elderly patients, patients with high potassium levels, patients with impaired liver function, and patients with heart or vascular issues; dosage adjustments or close monitoring of the condition may be necessary. During the course of this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, fatigue, cough, and diarrhea may occur, and in rare cases, serious adverse reactions such as angioedema, kidney function impairment, hepatitis may arise. Particular attention is required regarding kidney function changes in patients with heart failure or after myocardial infarction, and regular kidney function tests should be conducted during treatment. This drug may interact with other blood pressure medications, diuretics, and potassium-sparing drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken. Dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery, hence caution is advised. In case of overdose, severe hypotension or loss of consciousness may occur, requiring immediate medical attention, along with possible emergency treatments such as induction of vomiting or volume resuscitation. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children and adolescents; therefore, its use is not recommended. Store this medication in a place out of the reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blistering, peeling skin, pain in mouth/eyes mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination changes
