This medication is used to treat essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is especially effective for patients over 55 years of age who cannot use ACE inhibitors and have a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attacks, or for high-risk diabetic patients with end-organ damage, reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular disease. This medication controls blood pressure and protects cardiovascular health, improving overall health status.

How to take

Adult dose

For treatment of essential hypertension, Telmisartan is to be administered orally as 40 mg once daily with water, and can be taken regardless of meals. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy. Therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to this medication, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severe liver disease or biliary excretion disorders, specific hereditary angioedema patients, and those with diabetes or severe kidney disease should not use this medication. During use of this medication, various side effects such as hyperkalemia, decreased kidney function, hypotension, allergic reactions, abnormal liver function, pulmonary diseases, and muscle disorders may occur, so medical consultation must be sought immediately if symptoms arise. Particularly for diabetic patients, caution is needed as hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, and medication should be stopped immediately if symptoms of angioedema appear. This medication may interact with other antihypertensives, diuretics, potassium supplements, lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), so it must be taken under the guidance of medical personnel. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication, and if it must be used, consultation with a specialist is necessary. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, acute kidney failure may occur, and immediate medical attention is necessary.
