This medication is used to treat hypertension. It also helps to prevent and treat kidney disease in patients who have hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is effective in improving kidney health associated with hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered orally at a dose of 50 mg once daily at the same time, regardless of meals. If therapeutic effects are insufficient, it may be administered in two divided doses daily or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily, which can be increased to 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure. Patients at risk of excessive blood pressure reduction should start with a dose of 25 mg.

Precautions

This medicine can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function or certain genetic diseases should not use this medication, and it should not be administered in cases of hypersensitivity. Elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia, those with liver impairment, etc. should be especially cautious when using this medication, and patients who are at risk of rapid blood pressure drops should also take care. This medication can cause various side effects, including muscle cramps, dizziness, cough, dyspepsia, and rare serious adverse reactions such as angioedema or hepatitis, renal failure, etc. Regular blood pressure and blood tests are necessary, as blood pressure may drop too low or kidney function may worsen, and if symptoms occur, the doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication can increase potassium levels, so it is advisable not to take potassium supplements or potassium-containing drugs simultaneously, and expert guidance is needed when combined with other blood pressure medications. If this medication is taken during pregnancy, regular ultrasounds, etc., must be performed to check the status of the fetus, and breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication or discontinue breastfeeding. It should not be administered to children, especially those under 6 years or children with severely impaired kidney function, and elderly patients should also be monitored closely while using it. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and increased heart rate may occur, requiring immediate treatment, and this medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so caution is needed.
