How to take

Adult dose

The dosage of this medication should be determined based on each patient’s current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability, while not exceeding the maximum recommended dose of linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin 1000 mg twice a day. This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If currently not treated with metformin: The initial dose of this medication should be 2.5/500 mg, taken twice daily, 1 tablet at a time.

Precautions

This medication contains two ingredients, metformin and linagliptin, which help control blood sugar levels. However, it can cause serious side effects like lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with poor kidney function, liver issues, acute cardiac problems, or heart failure. Additionally, pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, blood glucose should be carefully monitored when taken alongside insulin or sulfonylurea medications. This medication is sensitive to kidney function, and caution is particularly necessary in elderly individuals with reduced kidney function or in patients taking other drugs that may impact kidney performance. There may also be rare side effects like acute pancreatitis or blistering dermatitis, so if unusual symptoms occur, one should consult a doctor immediately. Moreover, due to the metformin component, vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so regular blood tests to monitor vitamin status are recommended. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment, particularly since acute alcohol intoxication increases the risk of lactic acidosis. If iodine contrast agents used in radiological examinations are administered, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after the test, and use should be resumed only after re-evaluating kidney function. This medication has not been adequately studied for safety and efficacy in children or adolescents, therefore it is not recommended for use in these age groups. In case of overdose, serious lactic acidosis can occur, so strict adherence to the prescribed dosage is necessary, and one should visit a medical institution if any unusual symptoms arise. Finally, this medication should be stored in a place away from moisture and out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container.
