This medicine helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it lowers the risks of myocardial infarction and stroke, and is beneficial for patients who have undergone vascular reconstruction procedures or who have chronic stable angina. It also reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes who have cardiovascular risk factors. Clinically, it reduces the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, fatal and non-fatal stroke, angina, and hospitalization due to congestive heart failure in patients with coronary heart disease. Additionally, this medication is used to treat hyperlipidemia, helping to lower cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels while raising HDL-cholesterol levels. It is also effectively used to support dietary therapy in patients with dyslipidemia or familial hypercholesterolemia.
