Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia
This medication helps to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, ApoB protein, and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, especially in familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia. It is also used as an adjunct therapy for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other treatments are ineffective. This drug is recommended for use alongside a dietary regimen and is indicated when dietary management alone is insufficient. Before starting treatment, it is important to check for other secondary causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism and address them if necessary. Regularly monitoring cholesterol levels during treatment is crucial for proper management. This medication is used to reduce the risk of hypercholesterolemia and associated vascular diseases through the improvement of blood lipids.
This medication is taken once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. The dosage range for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia is 10/10mg to 10/40mg daily, and the usual recommended starting dose is 10/20mg daily. Patients with less need for LDL cholesterol reduction may start with 10/10mg daily. After starting treatment or adjusting the dose, lipid levels should be checked at intervals of at least 4 weeks.
This medication is used to lower blood cholesterol levels. Be cautious as muscle abnormalities can occur while taking this drug. It is important to immediately inform a doctor if muscle pain or weakness occurs. Especially with high doses of this medication, the risk of muscle damage may increase, so it should be taken according to a doctor's instructions. For patients with poor liver function or liver disease, it is safer not to take this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and those planning to become pregnant should consult a doctor before use. There are many interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any currently taken drugs. Special caution is required when taken with medications that interfere with the metabolism of this drug in the liver, as the risk of muscle damage may increase. Older adults and children may need dose adjustment or careful administration. Regular blood tests to monitor liver function and muscle condition are recommended while taking this medication. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so treatment will be symptom-based. It is advisable to avoid grapefruit juice and concurrent use with certain medications while on this medication, and to consult medical personnel before starting new medications.
