How to take

Adult dose

Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg is taken orally once. The sooner it is taken after intercourse, the higher the effectiveness. After unprotected intercourse, it should be taken as soon as possible (recommended within 12 hours), but no later than 72 hours (3 days). If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking, an additional dose of 1.5 mg should be taken immediately.

Precautions

This drug is an emergency contraceptive that is intended for temporary use to prevent pregnancy. It should not be used continuously as a substitute for regular contraceptive methods. If the timing of intercourse is unclear or if your menstruation is delayed for more than 5 days after taking this emergency contraceptive, or if abnormal bleeding occurs, you must confirm whether you are pregnant. This medication should not be taken by patients who have an allergy to it or have severe liver dysfunction. Additionally, women who are pregnant or may be pregnant should not use it. Individuals with a specific genetic disorder related to lactose should also not take this medicine. Patients at risk of an ectopic pregnancy, or those with digestive disorders, heart diseases, or kidney diseases should use this medication cautiously as symptoms may worsen. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, breast tenderness, delayed menstruation, bleeding, vomiting, and fatigue may occur, but most resolve within 48 hours. This drug should be used only once within a single menstrual cycle, and after taking it, non-hormonal contraceptive methods should be used. It should be taken within 72 hours for effectiveness; it is ineffective beyond this time. Be cautious as pregnancy may occur if additional intercourse happens after taking this medication. This drug carries a risk of thrombosis, so individuals with a history of thrombosis or a family history of thrombotic conditions should be especially careful. This medication does not prevent sexually transmitted diseases, so separate measures are necessary for STIs. When taken with other medications, the metabolism of drugs may speed up, reducing its effectiveness, especially avoiding mixing it with certain liver enzyme inducers. This drug should not be used during pregnancy, and breastfeeding is not recommended for at least 8 hours after taking it. No severe side effects from overdose have been reported, but symptoms may include nausea or bleeding, and appropriate treatment is necessary based on symptoms. Store this drug away from direct sunlight and keep it out of reach of children, and do not transfer it to another container.
