This medication is used to treat heart-related diseases such as hypertension, stable angina, and myocardial ischemia caused by vascular spasms. It also helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina and the risk associated with coronary revascularization in patients confirmed with coronary heart disease who do not have heart failure or have a cardiac output of over 40%. It is used to improve heart health and prevent the occurrence of complications.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Take 5 mg of amlodipine orally once daily, and the dose may be increased up to 10 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust as appropriate based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to individuals with allergies to this drug or similar drugs, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, those with severe aortic stenosis, and patients in shock. It should also be used with caution in patients with severe hypotension, those requiring dialysis due to renal failure, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. The drug is generally well tolerated, but side effects such as facial flushing due to vasodilation, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur. Rarely, various adverse reactions such as excessive lowering of blood pressure, vascular inflammation, neurological symptoms, digestive issues, skin rashes, hair loss, and erectile dysfunction have been reported. Caution is necessary for patients with heart failure as pulmonary edema may increase, and patients with impaired liver function may require dose adjustment due to increased drug concentration in the body. This medication has a slow onset of action and is therefore not suitable for treating acute angina. It is known to have no significant effect on driving or operating machinery. Care must be taken when using this drug in combination with other medications. In particular, using it with grapefruit juice may enhance the hypotensive effect and is not recommended. Additionally, caution is necessary when combined with certain antibiotics, antihypertensive drugs, immunosuppressants, etc., and consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is advised. The safety of this drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not established, so use should be avoided if possible, and breastfeeding should be discontinued. Effectiveness has been confirmed in children aged 6 years and older; however, safety and efficacy are not known for those younger than this age. Overdose may result in severe hypotension and heart problems, requiring immediate medical attention, and emergency treatment may be necessary. This medication has been reported to have a low risk of carcinogenicity or genetic mutation even with long-term use.
