Treatment and prevention of gastroesophageal reflux disease (erosive esophagitis), ulcers related to Helicobacter pylori, and alleviation of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, and it is effective for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in esophagitis patients. It is also used in combination with antibiotics for the treatment of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, and it helps prevent ulcer recurrence. It is applicable in the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal symptoms and gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers arising from the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This medication is used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and as maintenance therapy after prevention of rebleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcers. This drug is widely used for various gastrointestinal disorders and ulcer treatments, helping to improve symptoms and prevent recurrence.
This medication should be swallowed with liquids like water and must not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. For patients whose esophagitis is not resolved or who continue to have symptoms, an additional 4 weeks may be required. - Long-term maintenance therapy for preventing recurrence in esophagitis patients: 20 mg once daily. - Symptoms treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: · 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical attention is needed. · Once symptoms improve, subsequent continued symptoms should be controlled with 20 mg once daily. · In adults, 20 mg can be administered as needed once daily. Continuous administration for symptom control is not recommended for patients at high risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers due to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration. 2) Combination therapy with antibiotics for eradication of Helicobacter pylori Administer 20 mg of this drug in conjunction with 1 g of amoxicillin and 500 mg of clarithromycin, twice daily for 7 days. 3) Short-term treatment for upper gastrointestinal symptoms (pain, discomfort, burning sensation) associated with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (COX-2 non-selective and selective) - 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical attention is necessary. Clinical trials beyond 4 weeks have not been conducted. 4) For patients requiring continuous administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - Treatment of gastric ulcers related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily. Treatment duration is 4 to 8 weeks. - Prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily. 5) Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome The recommended initial dose is 40 mg twice daily. Subsequent dosages should be adjusted based on the patient, and treatment should continue while clinical symptoms are present. According to clinical data, most patients can be adjusted at dosages of 80 to 160 mg daily. Doses exceeding 80 mg per day should be divided into two doses. 6) Maintenance therapy after intravenous induction of prevention of rebleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcers Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks after intravenous induction of prevention of rebleeding. 2. Adolescents aged 12 years and older 1) Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If esophagitis is not resolved or symptoms continue, an additional 4 weeks may be needed. - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis: · 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical attention is needed. · Once symptoms improve, subsequent continued symptoms should be controlled with 20 mg once daily. · In adults, 20 mg can be administered as needed once daily. Continuous administration for symptom control is not recommended for patients at high risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers due to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration. 3. Pediatric patients under 12 years There is no experience in administering this medication to pediatric patients under 12 years of age. 4. Renal impairment No dosage adjustment is required. There have not been many cases administered to patients with severe renal failure, so caution should be exercised. 5. Liver impairment No dosage adjustment is required for patients with mild to moderate liver impairment. For severe liver impairment, the dosage should not exceed 20 mg. 6. Elderly No dosage adjustment is required.
For adolescents 12 years and older, the dosage is the same as for adults: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks, and an additional 4 weeks may be prescribed if esophagitis continues. For treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to this drug or its components, those allergic to certain antibiotics, patients taking specific heart-related medications, lactating women, and patients with a history of heart disease should not use this medication. Care should be taken when taking this medication, as various side effects may occur. Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and nausea, while rare side effects include blood abnormalities, allergic reactions, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, muscle pain, and neurological abnormalities. Additionally, very rarely serious side effects such as severe skin diseases or muscle damage may occur, and symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Long-term use of this medication requires regular monitoring, and if symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, consultation with a physician is necessary. Moreover, as this medication reduces stomach acid, there may be an increased risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract and a higher risk of fractures, so patients at risk for osteoporosis should be especially cautious. This medication may interact with various other medications, so if you are taking other drugs, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Care is particularly needed when taken with antiviral agents, antibiotics, anticoagulants, and anticonvulsants. Because the safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently established, pregnant women should exercise caution when taking this medication, and it is advisable for lactating women not to take this medication. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment should be given based on symptoms. This medication is not eliminated by dialysis, so standard treatment methods should be followed. Lastly, this medication must be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container is not advised as it can compromise product quality.
Urticaria, severe swelling (including angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, anaphylactic reaction/shock, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, shortness of breath, bronchospasm, jaundice, hepatitis, liver failure, sudden and severe headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances.
