Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension and Stage 2 hypertension
This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with monotherapy of amlodipine or losartan. It is also used as a first-line therapy for patients with Stage 2 hypertension who require combination therapy to reach the target blood pressure. Therefore, it effectively assists in blood pressure control and improves hypertension management.
The recommended dose is 1 tablet once daily, taken with water regardless of meals. It is advised to take the medication at the same time each day (e.g. in the morning) if possible. Typically, 5/50 mg is administered once daily, and if blood pressure is not adequately controlled after 2 weeks, the dose may be increased to 10/50 mg once daily.
The safety and efficacy of this medication in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established; therefore, administration of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, and should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Women of childbearing potential are advised not to take this medication. It is also considered unsafe during breastfeeding. Patients with reduced intravascular effective blood volume, such as those taking diuretics, may experience hypotension upon initial administration of this medication, and caution is required. Patients allergic to this medication's active ingredients or similar components should not take it. Patients with severe hepatic impairment, severe aortic stenosis, or in shock should not use this medication. As blood pressure may drop, it is advisable to avoid dangerous activities such as high-altitude work or driving. Side effects such as dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, dyspepsia, and skin rashes may occur during the use of this medication; if unusual symptoms arise, consult a doctor. When used in conjunction with other blood pressure medications, the effects may be amplified, so it should strictly be taken according to the doctor's instructions. Grapefruit juice may enhance the effects of this medication; hence, it should be avoided. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function may require dose adjustment, so consultation with a physician is needed. Overdose may lead to severe hypotension or cardiac issues, so it is essential to adhere to the exact dosage. This medication is not recommended for children due to uncertain safety and efficacy.
