Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with congenital disorders of branched-chain amino acid metabolism, as they are at risk of serious symptoms such as seizures or respiratory distress. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal distension, and nausea may occasionally occur. In such cases, it may be necessary to reduce the dosage or temporarily discontinue the medication. It may occasionally affect kidney function, leading to elevated BUN levels in blood tests. In these situations, dosage should be adjusted or discontinued. Metabolic disturbances may lead to elevated blood ammonia levels, so caution is needed, and dosage should be adjusted if such symptoms occur. Various side effects, including liver dysfunction, skin rashes, fatigue, edema, and facial flushing have been reported, so any unusual symptoms should be discussed with healthcare professionals. This medication is not effective or may even be harmful to patients with certain liver diseases, particularly those with severe hepatic encephalopathy or significantly impaired liver function. Since this medication contains only branched-chain amino acids, adequate protein and caloric intake suitable to the patient's condition is essential. Insufficient protein intake may reduce the effectiveness of the medication and worsen nutritional status, so caution is advised. If blood BUN or ammonia levels are elevated, there may be a possibility of overdose, necessitating caution; prolonged use may also lead to worsening nutritional status. If hypoalbuminemia does not improve after more than 2 months of treatment, alternative therapeutic methods should be considered. Elderly individuals may have decreased bodily function and are at greater risk for metabolic disturbances, thus careful consideration is needed when administering. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding have not had the safety of this medication established, and it should only be taken when the benefits outweigh the risks. Safety in pediatrics has not been confirmed, so caution must be exercised due to lack of experience in usage. Keep out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers may lead to accidents or deterioration of quality, so caution is required.
