This medication is used to improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and cold sensation caused by chronic arterial occlusive diseases, such as Buerger's disease, atherosclerosis, or diabetic peripheral vascular disease. It also has the effect of preventing recurrence after a cerebral infarction occurs. Thus, it helps alleviate symptoms related to blood circulation problems and prevents the recurrence of cerebral infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

As cilostazol, the usual adult dose is 200 mg per dose taken orally once a day. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, avoiding meals.

Precautions

This drug improves blood circulation and inhibits platelet aggregation. While taking this medication, pulse rate may increase, so it is important to carefully monitor for symptoms of angina. Patients with bleeding or at high risk of bleeding, patients with congestive heart failure, those allergic to this drug or its components, pregnant women or those who might become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Patients taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or thrombolytics should use this drug cautiously as the risk of bleeding may increase, and women during menstruation should also administer with caution due to the risk of bleeding. Patients with severely impaired kidney or liver function, diabetes, hypertension, or heart rhythm problems require special precautions when using this drug. Various side effects may occur, including headache, diarrhea, palpitations, joint pain, and chest discomfort. Severe bleeding, blood abnormalities, pneumonia, and heart problems may also occur; thus, if any abnormal symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately. This drug is administered to patients with cerebral infarction only after their symptoms are stabilized. It should be given even more cautiously to patients with uncontrolled blood pressure. Caution is needed while driving or operating machinery, as dizziness may occur. Taking it with food may increase blood concentration and the risk of side effects, so it is better to take it on an empty stomach. This drug is metabolized in the liver and may interact with certain other medications, especially those that inhibit liver metabolic enzymes, requiring dosage adjustments. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and it is recommended to stop breastfeeding while using it. Safety in children and infants is not established, so caution is required for their use. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily functions, so adjustments to the dosage should be made accordingly. In case of overdose, severe headache, diarrhea, hypotension, tachycardia, and cardiac arrhythmias may occur, and immediate medical attention is required.
