This medication is used to improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and cold sensations caused by chronic arterial obstruction. It also has an effect of preventing recurrence after a cerebral infarction occurs. Therefore, it is a drug that helps with blood circulation disorders and the prevention of cerebrovascular diseases.
For silostazol, the usual adult dose is 200 mg taken orally once a day. It is recommended to take this medication on an empty stomach, avoiding meals.
This drug may increase heart rate and poses a risk of angina symptoms, so careful observation of symptoms such as chest pain is necessary. Patients with a risk of bleeding, recent bleeding disorders, or those who have undergone surgery should not use this medication, and patients with congestive heart failure may experience worsening symptoms when taking this drug. Patients with a history of allergic reactions and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers should not be given this medication. Patients taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, thrombolytics, women during menstruation, patients with coronary artery stenosis, severe renal or liver failure, diabetes, hypertension, and arrhythmias should use this medication with caution. This drug may cause side effects such as headache, diarrhea, palpitations, joint swelling, and in serious cases, bleeding, blood abnormalities, interstitial pneumonia, and heart problems may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Dizziness may occur when taking this medication, so caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery, and taking it with food may increase blood concentration and risk of side effects, so it is best to take it on an empty stomach. This medication is metabolized in the liver, and the blood concentration may change when taken with certain drugs, so it is important to consult with a physician or pharmacist regarding concomitant medications. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take this medication, and if they are taking it, they should discontinue breastfeeding. Safety for children or newborns has not been established, so care should be taken when using it. Elderly patients may need dosage adjustment due to decreased bodily functions. In case of overdose, symptoms such as severe headache, diarrhea, hypotension, and tachycardia may appear, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
