This medication is primarily used to improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and coldness caused by chronic arterial occlusion. It also effectively helps prevent recurrence after cerebral infarction, contributing to the health management of patients. Therefore, this medication is used for improving blood circulation and preventing the recurrence of cerebral infarction.
As cilostazol, typically, an adult takes 200 mg once orally per day. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach while avoiding meals.
This medication may lead to an increased heart rate, which can cause symptoms of angina, so careful observation of angina symptoms such as chest pain is necessary. Patients at risk of bleeding or those with recent bleeding disorders, heart failure, those who have had allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs, women during menstruation, patients with coronary artery stenosis, severe renal failure or liver failure, diabetes, hypertension, or those with cardiac rhythm disorders should use this medication cautiously. Side effects such as headache, diarrhea, palpitations, joint pain, or chest discomfort may occur. Rarely, severe bleeding, blood disorders, pneumonia, heart failure, or liver dysfunction may occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, consult a physician immediately. This medication should be started only after stabilization of cerebral infarction symptoms, and patients with high blood pressure should pay attention to blood pressure control. Dizziness may occur during use, so caution is required when driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication with food may increase blood concentration and heighten the risk of side effects, so it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach and maintain a minimum interval of 3 hours between meals and medication. This medication is primarily metabolized in the liver, so dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired liver function. Consult with a healthcare professional regarding the potential increase in blood concentration or bleeding risk when taken with certain drugs. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and women who may become pregnant should check before use. Safety for children and newborns has not been established, so caution is advised in their use. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments due to decreased bodily function. In the case of overdose, severe headache, diarrhea, hypotension, rapid heartbeat, and arrhythmia may occur; therefore, seek appropriate medical treatment immediately.
