This medication is used to improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and coldness caused by chronic arterial occlusive disease, and to prevent recurrence after a cerebral infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

Cilostazol is usually administered orally as a single dose of 200mg once daily for adults. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, avoiding food.

Precautions

This medication may increase heart rate and induce angina symptoms; therefore, close observation for symptoms of angina such as chest pain is required. Do not administer to patients with a high risk of bleeding or those with recent hemorrhagic stroke, active peptic ulcer, etc. Avoid use in patients with congestive heart failure as it may worsen symptoms. This medication should not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or its components, females who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women. Caution is required when administering to patients taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, thrombolytics, menstruating women, patients with coronary artery stenosis, severe renal failure or hepatic failure, and diabetic patients. During administration, blood pressure and cardiac status should be monitored regularly, and if any symptoms of bleeding or abnormalities in the blood appear, the healthcare provider should be notified immediately. Dizziness may occur, so caution is necessary while driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication with food may increase drug concentration; therefore, it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach with a three-hour interval from meals. This drug is metabolized in the liver; co-administration with certain drugs may increase blood concentration, so dosage adjustment and caution are necessary when used together. Pregnant or nursing mothers should not take this medication as fetal abnormalities have been reported in animal studies; nursing should be discontinued if taking this drug. Safety in children and newborns has not been established, so caution is necessary when using. Elderly patients may have decreased physical function, and therefore dosage should be adjusted accordingly. Overdosing may result in symptoms such as headache, diarrhea, hypotension, tachycardia, and immediate medical attention is required. During the course of taking this medication, careful observation for various adverse reactions such as bleeding symptoms, cardiac abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, and allergic reactions is required.

Urticaria, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/eye mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, cough with fever accompanied respiratory distress, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme malaise, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, markedly reduced urine output.
