How to take

Adult dose

Cilostazol is usually administered orally at a dose of 200mg once daily for adults. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, avoiding meals.

Precautions

This medication can increase heart rate, which may lead to symptoms of angina such as chest pain, so angina symptoms should be monitored closely. It should not be used in patients at high risk of bleeding or those who have recently had a hemorrhagic stroke or surgery, and it should also be avoided in patients with congestive heart failure as symptoms may worsen. If allergic to this medication or its ingredients, women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not use it. Patients taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, or thrombolytics should use it cautiously as there may be an increased risk of bleeding. Women who are menstruating also have an increased risk of bleeding and should take it with caution. Patients with coronary artery stenosis may experience increased heart rate, triggering angina, thus requiring careful attention. Patients with severe renal failure or liver failure may have elevated levels of this medication in their body, so caution is advised during use. Diabetic patients may have a higher incidence of hemorrhagic side effects and should be careful, and patients with high blood pressure or cardiac rhythm abnormalities should also take it cautiously. This medication can cause various side effects, including headaches, diarrhea, palpitations, joint pain, and chest discomfort, and severe side effects require immediate consultation with a physician. Dizziness may occur during use, necessitating caution when driving or operating machinery; taking it with meals may increase blood concentration, raising the risk of side effects, so it is best taken on an empty stomach. Since this medication is metabolized in the liver, taking it with drugs that inhibit liver metabolic enzymes may raise blood concentration and lead to side effects, so caution is necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and if breastfeeding, they should stop nursing. The safety for use in children or newborns has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it, and elderly patients may need dose adjustment due to decreased physical function. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, diarrhea, hypotension, and arrhythmias may occur, requiring immediate contact with a medical institution for appropriate treatment.
