Treatment for essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is primarily used to treat essential hypertension. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in high-risk patients aged 55 and older, such as those with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attacks, or in diabetic patients with evidence of target organ damage. It is particularly suitable for patients who cannot use ACE inhibitors and is effective in reducing the risk of death due to myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases. This drug is used to manage hypertension and improve cardiovascular health.
1. Essential Hypertension Adults: It is recommended to administer 40 mg orally once daily as telmisartan; in some patients, 20 mg once daily may be effective. If necessary, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 80 mg once daily. 2. Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease Risk Adults: It is recommended to administer 80 mg orally once daily. ○ Patients with Liver Dysfunction Mild to moderate liver dysfunction patients should be administered with caution.
This medication can cause severe harm to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This drug should not be used in patients with known allergies to it or its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, or those with hereditary angioedema. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, liver dysfunction, heart disease, and decreased kidney function should exercise caution when using this medication. During treatment, you should regularly check blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels to detect and manage any adverse reactions early. While this drug lowers blood pressure, various side effects such as dizziness, headache, dyspepsia, muscle pain, and rashes may occasionally occur, and if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. In particular, if severe allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, discontinue use immediately and seek emergency treatment. Since hyperkalemia and worsening kidney function can occur, it is particularly important to exercise caution when taking it with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics. Patients scheduled for surgery are advised not to take this medication for 24 hours before the procedure. Avoid drug interactions, as there may be interactions when used with other antihypertensives or specific medications; inform your healthcare provider of any medications you are taking. This drug is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, symptoms may include hypotension, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, etc., so immediate medical assistance is necessary; blood dialysis will not remove the drug, so caution is required. Store this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers. While taking this drug, drowsiness or dizziness may occur; exercise caution when driving or operating machinery. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult with healthcare professionals before taking this medication, and if breastfeeding, it is advisable to stop breastfeeding.
