Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
The combination therapy of amlodipine and olmesartan medoxomil is used when blood pressure control is difficult in patients with essential hypertension. These medications dilate blood vessels to lower blood pressure and reduce the burden on the heart. The two components work together to control blood pressure more effectively. Therefore, it is used to aid in the appropriate control of blood pressure.
This medication should be taken once daily, with one tablet served with water regardless of meals. It is advised to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). The recommended dosing is as follows: - 5/20/12.5 mg: administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with amlodipine/olmesartan medoxomil 5/20 mg combination therapy. - 5/40/12.5 mg: administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with amlodipine/olmesartan medoxomil 5/40 mg combination therapy.
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years old have not been established, so administration of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It is safe to avoid use if you have an allergy to this medication or similar components, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have severe hypotension or valvular heart disease, unstable heart failure after acute myocardial infarction, or serious kidney or liver dysfunction. Patients with low blood volume or low sodium should be carefully monitored when starting this medication as blood pressure may drop too low. Patients with reduced kidney function, those who have received a kidney transplant, those with renovascular disease, patients with severe liver disease, or certain heart disease patients need careful monitoring and adjustments when taking this medication. Since this medication lowers blood pressure, sudden dizziness or lightheadedness may occur, so caution should be exercised during hazardous activities such as working at heights or driving. As this medication includes thiazide diuretic components, there may be electrolyte imbalances, especially hypokalemia or hypercalcemia, so regular blood tests are necessary. During the administration of this medication, interactions with certain medications may occur. If you are taking other drugs, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant are recommended to switch to other antihypertensive medications with established safety instead of this medication. If breastfeeding, the components of this medication can pass into breast milk, potentially affecting the baby, so it is advisable to either stop breastfeeding or discontinue the medication. Use in patients under 18 years old is not recommended as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney and liver function, so it is advisable to start at a lower dose and carefully monitor conditions. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may drop too low, and heart rhythms may become irregular, so immediate medical attention is required for appropriate treatment.
