This medication is used for hypertension and myocardial ischemia such as stable angina and unstable angina. It also helps reduce the risk of hospitalization for angina in patients with confirmed coronary artery disease during recent angiography, who do not have heart failure or decreased cardiac output, and reduces the risks that may arise during coronary revascularization. Therefore, it is used to effectively improve the symptoms and risks of cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Adult: Take 5 mg of amlodipine orally once daily, and dosage may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg per day based on patient response. Adjust dosage appropriately according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this drug or similar drugs, breastfeeding women, individuals with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and those in a state of shock should not take this medication. Caution is required when using this medication. Particularly, patients with severe hypotension, those needing kidney dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this drug carefully. This drug generally has good tolerance, but the following side effects may occur. The most common side effects include flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, various adverse reactions such as weakness, decreased blood pressure, neurological symptoms, erectile dysfunction, digestive issues, skin rash, and liver dysfunction have been reported. In patients with heart failure, caution is needed as pulmonary edema may increase with long-term use of this drug. In patients with liver dysfunction, the metabolism of this drug may be delayed, requiring dosage adjustments and careful monitoring. This drug lowers blood pressure slowly, so it may be insufficient in emergency situations. It is known not to significantly affect driving or operating machinery. This drug can interact with various other medications, so if taking other medications, one must consult with healthcare professionals. In particular, taking grapefruit juice may excessively enhance the effects of this drug, so it is advisable to avoid grapefruit juice consumption. The safety of this drug has not been established in pregnant or breastfeeding women, hence it should only be used when necessary and breastfeeding should be discontinued. This drug is only to be used in children aged 6 years and older, and its efficacy and safety in children under 6 years are not known. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and heart problems may occur, thus immediate medical attention is required, and gastric lavage or drug detoxification may be necessary.
