Reduction of risk for myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hypercholesterolemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risks of myocardial infarction and stroke, particularly effective for adults with multiple risk factors and patients with type 2 diabetes. It is also used to reduce the risk of vascular reconstruction surgery and chronic stable angina. In the treatment of dyslipidemia, it lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol. It also helps reduce cholesterol levels in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, it is effectively used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and treat dyslipidemia.
For the treatment of hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, and if more LDL cholesterol reduction is needed, it can be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosage range is 10 to 80 mg once daily. The initial and maintenance doses should be individualized according to treatment goals and patient characteristics, and lipid levels should be analyzed 2 to 4 weeks after starting the therapy and adjusting the dose.
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17), the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. Dosage may be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or more.
