Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is prescribed to assist with blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes by combining linagliptin and metformin. It helps manage blood sugar levels effectively when used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapies. As a result, blood sugar levels are maintained steadily, greatly aiding diabetes management. This drug enhances the overall ability of patients to control their blood sugar.
The dosage of this medication is determined based on the maximum recommended doses of each ingredient, which are linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin 1000 mg, not exceeding twice daily for each patient, taking into account their current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance. This medication is administered twice a day with meals. 1. If not previously treated with metformin: Take this medication 2.5/500 mg twice daily, one tablet at a time.
This medication contains two components that help control blood sugar. However, it can cause a serious side effect called lactic acidosis, thus it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney or liver function. Furthermore, this medication should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes, pregnant women, or those with severe heart disease. During treatment, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, especially when used concomitantly with insulin or sulfonylurea medications; therefore, blood sugar levels should be monitored carefully. Elderly patients with reduced kidney function or those taking other medications that may affect kidney function should undergo regular blood tests to monitor kidney status. This drug may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rashes, pancreatitis, arthralgia, and rarely, blistering dermatosis, so you should consult a doctor immediately if symptoms occur. In situations that can affect kidney function, such as surgery or radiological tests, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and it can be resumed after kidney function has recovered. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid using this medication, and it is not recommended for use in children and adolescents. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid excessive alcohol intake, and caution is required when nutritional status is poor or dehydration is present. While drug interactions are relatively few, consultation with a doctor is recommended for potential dose adjustments when used with specific medications. Lastly, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept away from moisture.
