How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered twice a day with meals. 1. If not previously treated with metformin: Start with a dosage of 1 tablet (2.5/500 mg) twice a day, and may increase to 1 tablet (2.5/1000 mg) twice a day. 2. If sufficient blood glucose control is difficult with metformin monotherapy: Administer linagliptin 2.5 mg twice a day and the existing metformin dosage.

Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and contains two active ingredients that assist with blood glucose control. When taking this medication, rare side effects such as lactic acidosis may occur; hence, patients with impaired kidney function or liver problems should exercise particular caution. This medication should not be administered to certain patients, such as those with type 1 diabetes, severe kidney impairment, or acute myocardial infarction or severe infections. Additionally, it is safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication. When using this medication with other hypoglycemic agents, patients should frequently monitor their blood glucose levels due to the risk of hypoglycemia, and may need to adjust dosages of other medications if necessary. Seniors with reduced kidney function should undergo regular kidney function tests and use appropriate adjusted dosages. Patients facing acute illnesses or approaching surgery should temporarily discontinue this medication, and can resume it once kidney function is confirmed normal after tests or treatments. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, severe muscle pain, fatigue, or shortness of breath occur during the treatment, immediate consultation with a physician is required, especially in cases of acute pancreatitis or skin blistering, which should also result in immediate discontinuation and consultation with an expert. Furthermore, prolonged use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency; therefore, patients should be tested for vitamin B12 levels if experiencing anemia or neurological symptoms. This medication can interact with multiple drugs; therefore, patients taking other medications must inform their doctor or pharmacist and be closely monitored. For children under 10 years old or adolescents aged 10-17, safety and efficacy have not been established, hence its use is not recommended. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and in a place free from moisture and direct sunlight.
