Precautions

This medication contains donepezil hydrochloride as the active ingredient and is used to treat Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms. Firstly, this medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to donepezil hydrochloride or any of the other components of this medication, by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and by nursing mothers. Patients with heart diseases or conduction disorders should take this medication with caution as it can slow down the heartbeat or induce arrhythmias. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers should use this medication cautiously as it may stimulate gastric acid secretion and increase the risk of worsening ulcers. Patients with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should be cautious as bronchoconstriction and increased mucus secretion may worsen symptoms. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease should be cautious as this medication may worsen neurological symptoms. During treatment with this medication, serious adverse reactions such as fainting, bradycardia, heart block, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver function abnormalities, cerebrovascular abnormalities, movement disorders, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, rhabdomyolysis, dyspnea, acute pancreatitis, acute renal failure, and unexplained sudden death may occur, and health professionals should be consulted immediately if symptoms occur. Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, dizziness, insomnia, headaches, fatigue, and muscle pain, and these should also be observed closely. This medication can cause various side effects related to heart rhythm, hence patients with a history of heart disease may require regular ECG monitoring. It may burden the gastrointestinal tract, and patients who have previously experienced peptic ulcers should carefully monitor gastrointestinal symptoms. This medication may affect driving or machine operation abilities, so caution is necessary during early treatment or when dosage is changed. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid taking this medication unless absolutely necessary; in such cases, they should consult a specialist and discontinue nursing. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, therefore this medication should not be used in pediatric patients. This medication may interact with various drugs, so if the patient is currently taking other medications, they must inform their healthcare provider, particularly when used with heart-related drugs, antibiotics, antidepressants, antipsychotics, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, hypotension, respiratory depression, or seizures may occur, and appropriate medical treatment should be sought immediately. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container may compromise its quality.
