Effectiveness in reducing essential hypertension and cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used to treat essential hypertension. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of death from myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular disease in high-risk diabetic patients with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attacks, or evidence of end-organ damage. It is effective as alternative therapy when ACE inhibitors cannot be used in these patients. Therefore, this medication is used to control blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications.
Essential hypertension: Administer 40 mg of telmisartan orally once daily with water, and it can be taken regardless of meals. In certain patients, a dose of 20 mg once daily may be effective. If necessary, the dose may be increased up to 80 mg once daily, with the maximum antihypertensive effect typically appearing 4 to 8 weeks after increasing the dose. Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk: 80 mg once daily.
