Precautions

This medication can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, so it is important to be aware of its symptoms. Lactic acidosis may present with symptoms such as muscle pain, shortness of breath, weakness, and abdominal pain; if these symptoms occur, contact a doctor immediately. In addition, hypoglycemia may occur if this medication is used together with other diabetes treatments, so blood sugar levels should be checked frequently and symptoms must be monitored. Patients who have had allergic reactions to any ingredients of this medication or similar drugs should not use it. It should also not be administered to patients with poor liver function or active liver disease, as liver dysfunction can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Patients with muscle disorders or previous issues with muscles, those taking certain immunosuppressants, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication or should use it with great caution. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or conditions that affect kidney function, such as dehydration, severe infections, or acute heart failure, should also avoid this medication. In particular, this medication should be discontinued for a period of time before and after surgery, and should only be resumed once kidney function is confirmed to be normal after the surgery. Additionally, patients with genetic lactose intolerance should not use this medication. While taking this medication, caution is needed if dietary intake is irregular or insufficient, if engaging in vigorous exercise, as there may be interactions with other medications. Regular liver enzyme and muscle-related tests are advisable since liver function or muscle conditions may become abnormal. If symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, or cramps occur, contact a doctor immediately. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so avoiding alcohol during treatment is recommended. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication and should use appropriate contraception methods. Elderly patients may experience decreased kidney function; therefore, regular kidney function tests should be carried out and dosages adjusted accordingly. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist, especially if taking certain antibiotics, antifungals, immunosuppressants, or fibrate medications. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment; blood dialysis may be beneficial. During treatment, dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised, and it should be stored out of reach of children.
