Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, alleviation of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and maintenance therapy effects
This medication is effective in treating ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, alleviating the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and is used for long-term maintenance. It is also used in conjunction with antibiotics to aid in the treatment of gastric ulcers in patients with Helicobacter pylori infection. It is indicated for the treatment of excessive gastric acid secretion diseases such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medication is used to improve various gastrointestinal disorders.
For gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer: Typically, 10 mg is taken orally once a day, with the possibility of increasing to 20 mg based on symptoms. Treatment duration is up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg is taken orally once a day for 4 to 8 weeks. If untreated, an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg taken orally twice daily may be conducted.
This medication should not be used in patients with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to specific components. Particular caution is needed for those allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics. Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and patients taking certain heart-related medications should ideally avoid using this medication. Patients with poor liver function or elderly patients, as well as those with a history of hypersensitivity to medications, should use this drug cautiously. Adverse reactions such as skin rashes and itching may occur, so if these symptoms appear, immediate discontinuation of the medication is necessary. Regular blood tests are required as changes in red or white blood cell counts may occur. Liver function abnormalities can arise, hence it's essential to have periodic liver function tests, and medication should be stopped if any abnormal symptoms occur. Various side effects may occur, including symptoms related to the heart, gastrointestinal issues, headaches, anxiety, or respiratory symptoms. Rare but serious adverse reactions such as severe skin reactions or interstitial pneumonia have also been reported. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of bone fractures, so caution is warranted during prolonged use. Long-term use may also decrease blood magnesium levels, requiring periodic monitoring. This medication can slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach by suppressing gastric acid secretion, so if diarrhea persists, a doctor should be notified. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. There is a potential for drug interactions, so consultation with healthcare professionals is advised, especially when used with warfarin, methotrexate, or antibiotics. It is safest to avoid this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. This medication should be taken whole without chewing or crushing. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container. Consult a doctor if any symptoms suggestive of gastric cancer or other malignancies arise while taking this medication. In case of overdose, no specific antidote exists, so appropriate treatment should be sought based on symptoms. Long-term use of this medication may lead to vitamin B12 absorption disorders, hence caution is warranted.
