Improvement of Type 2 Diabetes (Blood Sugar Control)
This medication is administered alongside diet and exercise therapy to assist in blood sugar control for patients with Type 2 Diabetes. It is particularly used when blood sugar control is difficult with either Metformin or Pioglitazone monotherapy, and can also serve as an alternative in combination therapy of the two drugs. Additionally, nutritional counseling, weight loss, and regular exercise should accompany the medication to better sustain the treatment effect. This medication helps improve blood sugar control for patients.
The dosage of this medication should be individualized based on the efficacy and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum dosages of Pioglitazone 30 mg and Metformin 2500 mg. The initial dose should be based on the patient’s current treatment regimen and started at 1 tablet once daily, gradually adjusting the dose according to the treatment response. Patients transitioning from Pioglitazone and Metformin combination therapy can start with their existing dosing regimen. Administer with meals.
This medication helps to control blood sugar. However, it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function or those with severe heart disease. This medication can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, which occurs when lactic acid builds up excessively in the body, posing serious risks. Symptoms of lactic acidosis may include vomiting, abdominal pain, muscle pain, and difficulty breathing, and immediate consultation with a physician is required if these symptoms occur. It is also advisable not to take this medication if liver function is poor or if there is excessive alcohol consumption. It may place a burden on the heart, so patients with heart failure should consult a doctor before using this medication. It should not be administered to patients with a history of bladder cancer or active bladder cancer, and if hematuria or urinary disorders occur during treatment, it should be reported to medical staff immediately. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and its safety and efficacy have not been established in children. Older adults may require dose adjustment and monitoring of kidney function due to decreased kidney function. Regular monitoring of blood sugar, kidney function, liver function, and blood tests is necessary while taking this medication, and if abnormal symptoms arise, a doctor should be notified immediately. Additionally, this medication should be temporarily discontinued before surgery or before examinations using iodine contrast agents, and should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. During treatment, excessive alcohol should be avoided, and due to potential interactions with other medications, patients should discuss all medications they are taking with a doctor or pharmacist. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, so caution is needed when skipping meals or over-exercising. In case of overdose, immediate medical assistance should be sought, and blood dialysis may be necessary if required.
Lactic acidosis (weakness, muscle pain, shortness of breath, asthenia, abdominal pain, decreased body temperature, low blood pressure, resistant bradyarrhythmias), severe allergic reactions (hives, severe swelling), heart failure symptoms (rapid weight changes, shortness of breath, edema), jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes, general malaise), severe liver failure, acute myocardial infarction, sepsis, severe neurological symptoms (severe headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis),
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is recommended to maintain storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature.
