For essential hypertension, the initial and maintenance doses are to take Candesartan Cilexetil 8-16mg orally once a day. If blood pressure control is insufficient after 4 weeks of 16mg administration, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 32mg once a day. For patients with reduced effective blood volume or renal impairment, the initial dose should be 4mg, while for patients with liver impairment, it should start at 2mg once a day. In the case of heart failure, the initial dose is to take 4 mg once a day.

This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It is also effective in managing symptoms in heart failure patients with impaired left ventricular systolic function, particularly when additional treatment with ACE inhibitors is needed or when there is intolerance to ACE inhibitors. This helps improve cardiac function and assists patients in daily living.

How to take

Adult dose

For essential hypertension, the initial and maintenance doses are to take Candesartan Cilexetil 8-16mg orally once a day. If blood pressure control is insufficient after 4 weeks of 16mg administration, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 32mg once a day. For patients with reduced effective blood volume or renal impairment, the initial dose should be 4mg, while for patients with liver impairment, it should start at 2mg once a day. In the case of heart failure, the initial dose is to take 4 mg once a day.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy in adolescents and children under 18 years have not been established.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and women who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver function or certain genetic lactose intolerance should also not use this medication. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, patients with mild liver impairment, and patients with heart valve disease should use this medication cautiously and monitor blood pressure and kidney function frequently during treatment. Side effects of this medication can include dizziness, back pain, respiratory infections, and in heart failure patients, the risks of hypotension, hyperkalemia, and deterioration of kidney function. Regular blood tests for serum potassium and creatinine levels are necessary. Serious side effects, such as decreased blood cell counts, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, and angioedema, can occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor immediately. When taking this medication with other antihypertensives, effects may be increased, so it must be taken according to a doctor's instructions. In particular, caution is necessary when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, as this could dangerously raise potassium levels in the blood. If you are scheduled for surgery or anesthesia, it is advisable to stop taking this medication 24 hours prior to the procedure. Overdose can lead to hypotension, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, etc., and immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. The safety and effectiveness of this medication in children and adolescents have not been sufficiently established, so it is recommended not to administer it to those under 18 years of age.
