Improvement of cholesterol and lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed dyslipidemia.
This medication is used in the treatment of patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It helps to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It is particularly suitable for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, to be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to other lipid-lowering therapies, and for patients at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. This medication should be used in conjunction with a proper diet and is administered when dietary alone is insufficient. It is important to confirm and address secondary causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism before treatment. Additionally, accurate measurement of lipid levels is essential to determine treatment direction. This medication is used to improve lipid levels associated with hypercholesterolemia and to enhance cardiovascular health.
This medication is administered once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosing range is 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg daily, with the generally recommended initial dose being 10/20 mg daily. Patients with less need for LDL cholesterol reduction may start at 10/10 mg daily. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended dose is 10/40 mg once daily in the evening.
This medication is used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. When taking this medication, muscle-related issues may occur; therefore, if muscle pain or weakness develops, patients should inform their doctor immediately. Especially when taking this medication at high doses or in combination with certain drugs, the risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis (serious muscle damage) is significantly increased. Patients with poor liver function or active liver disease should not use this medication. Pregnant or nursing women should also avoid using this medication, and women of childbearing potential should discuss with a doctor before taking it. Additionally, this medication can interact with certain drugs; thus, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. Especially, when taken with medications that interfere with the metabolism of this medication in the liver, the risk of muscle damage may increase. This medication is restricted for use in children only for those aged 10 years and older, especially in adolescents aged 10-17, and is not recommended for children under 10 years. Elderly patients may respond more sensitively to this medication, requiring caution. During treatment, regular blood tests must be performed to monitor liver function and muscle condition, and medical consultation should occur for any abnormal symptoms. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment should be provided based on symptoms. While this medication may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by controlling cholesterol levels, it is crucial to adhere to all precautions while taking it.
