This medication is primarily used to treat essential hypertension. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular diseases in high-risk patients over 55 years of age who are at high risk for coronary artery disease or stroke. It also provides a stable effect as an alternative medication when ACE inhibitors cannot be used. Therefore, it is useful for maintaining cardiovascular health and effectively improving hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

Essential hypertension: It is recommended to take 40 mg orally once daily of Telmisartan, which may be effective at 20 mg once daily for some patients. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 80 mg once daily. Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk: It is recommended to take 80 mg orally once daily of this medication. Patients with liver impairment: For mild to moderate liver impairment, it should not exceed 40 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, especially during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It is not safe to use this medication in patients with an allergy to it or its components, pregnant women, nursing mothers, patients with severe liver impairment or biliary obstruction, patients with hereditary angioedema, and patients with certain kidney diseases. Caution is needed when administering this medication to elderly patients, patients with elevated potassium levels, patients with mildly decreased liver function, and patients with heart or gastrointestinal diseases. While taking this medication, various side effects such as low blood pressure, dizziness, abdominal pain, skin rash, muscle pain, and kidney dysfunction may rarely occur, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, you should consult a doctor immediately. It is particularly important to regularly check serum potassium levels and kidney function to ensure there are no abnormalities. If blood pressure drops too low or symptoms of shock or fainting occur, treatment should be sought immediately.
