  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is used for properly controlling blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension through combined therapy of amlodipine and olmesartan medoxomil. The two components work together to dilate blood vessels and lower blood pressure, improving vascular health. This helps reduce cardiovascular risks associated with hypertension. In other words, this drug is used for effective blood pressure control in essential hypertension.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so administration should be stopped immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used in patients who are allergic to this drug or its ingredients, those with certain heart, kidney, or liver diseases, pregnant or nursing women, or patients with severe hypotension. Particular caution is necessary when administering this drug to patients with reduced blood volume, impaired kidney function, or liver disease, as hypotension or changes in kidney function may occur, necessitating close monitoring of the patient's condition. Because this drug has a strong blood pressure-lowering effect, dizziness or orthostatic hypotension may occur, requiring caution when driving or operating dangerous machinery. This medication can affect serum electrolyte levels, so it is necessary to regularly check potassium, sodium, and other levels through blood tests. Particularly, diabetic patients or those with reduced kidney function should be cautious of the risk of elevated potassium levels. This drug may interact with other medications; therefore, if used in combination with lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or other antihypertensives, it should be done under the supervision of a physician. Use during pregnancy can be dangerous to the fetus, so those planning a pregnancy or currently pregnant should consult a physician, and use during breastfeeding is not recommended. Elderly patients may experience enhanced effects of the medication due to reduced kidney and liver function, so treatment should start at a low dose and dosage should be adjusted carefully. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, palpitations, and electrolyte imbalance may occur, so immediate medical attention is necessary. This drug should be stored away from direct sunlight and moisture, and kept out of reach of children, preferably not transferred to other containers. During treatment, if unusual lesions appear on the skin, or if there are sudden breathing difficulties, severe dizziness, or swelling, a physician should be notified immediately.
